Dear parents,

If you notice that your child's chest is sunken inward or protruding outward, don't worry. This is one of the chest wall deformities called Pectus Excavatum or Pectus Carinatum. Pectus Excavatum is described by the chest sinking inward, while Pectus Carinatum is known for protruding outward. Both conditions affect your child's physical appearance. They can lead to self-esteem issues in children and may even cause some health problems. Therefore, when you notice an abnormality in your child's chest shape, don't neglect it.

Families coming to our clinic with complaints of Pectus deformities often describe their child's condition as "my child's chest is sunken inward" or "my child's chest is sticking out." After examination, the appropriate treatment method is determined, and if the child is under 17 years of age, non-surgical methods are generally planned as the treatment. Non-surgical methods provide 100% success in individuals under 17 years of age.

In cases where the chest is protruding outward, in other words, in the case of Pectus Carinatum, ORTHOTIC TREATMENT  is applied , while in cases where the chest is sunken inward, known as Pectus Excavatum VACUUM TREATMENT is applied.

At this point, the importance of early diagnosis becomes evident. Early diagnosis and correct intervention are extremely important to prevent future problems. Conditions like Pectus Excavatum or Pectus Carinatum are often noticed during children's growth and development. Therefore, as parents, it's important to carefully observe your child's physical characteristics and consult a healthcare professional if you notice any abnormalities. Early diagnosis in childhood ensures that your child receives more effective treatment.
